The radiator represents the tank from a synthetic material which is supplied with edges from the right and left side. From this collector cooling liquid flows on radiator tubes from light metal which for increase in the surface (and, therefore, a cooling surface) are supplied with cooling edges. Through cooling edges cooling liquid can give warmth to environment.

If the radiator leakage is suspected, it is necessary to carry out the described test by pressure in a workshop. At obvious defect you also can dismantle at once a radiator and send it in repair. There are special workshops on repair of radiators (the industry telephone directory) which carry out such repair or offer radiators on replacement.

Radiator dismantle

For dismantle of a radiator it is necessary to deblock by means of a screw-driver both fixing screws (1) on a forward part of the car and to take out them from fixing openings (2).

We do not advise to you to be engaged demontazhy a radiator in the car with an automatic transmission. Thus it is necessary to disconnect tubes of an oil radiator from ATF integrated in a radiator that then involves problem filling of a transmission of ATF. Besides, dirt should not get to system of circulation of ATF. Further you will find the description of dismantle of a radiator for cars with a mechanical transmission.


    Dismantle a front bumper (head of the Detail of a body). Merge in capacity cooling liquid. Disconnect hoses from a radiator; the thick hose below from the driver can be removed, having wrung out a metal bracket in connecting knot of a hose. Where it is necessary, dismantle an air line on the right or left side of a radiator. Disconnect, if is (the strengthened cooling, climatic installation), sockets of wires on the switch of the thermostat of the fan of a radiator, and also sockets on the radiator fan. Deblock by means of a small screw-driver a fixing bolt of a radiator above on a forward part of the car and remove it. Take out forward an intermediate rubber support. Pull forward a radiator for the upper edge and remove up from the bottom fixing pins.

Radiator cleaning

Till the summer period of an edge of a radiator should be cleared of the corpses which have stuck to it of insects, the cooling effect differently worsens.


    To Sbryznita the dried remains of insects the means dissolving protein. After a while wash away means from a reverse side of a radiator. Start up through radiator plates not too strong stream. The rigid brush or the sharp tool can damage radiator plates. Insert a water hose into an opening round the radiator fan. Where is, in addition lift an air zaslonka on a reverse side of a radiator and water through the openings located behind it.

Dismantle of hoses of supply of cooling liquid

At the left: in the car with the six-cylinder engine there is an additional carving stopper (arrow) plum of cooling liquid which is below at the engine near a dividing seam with a case.

On the right: the carving stopper of a drain opening (2) ahead on the right at a radiator is unfortunately available only at the dismantled bumper. Sometimes in cars with the electric fan of a radiator (the strengthened cooling) the thermoswitch (1) cooling liquid is built in.

At the left: to remove air from cooling system, it is necessary to shift after weakening of a collar a hose (3) heatings on a connecting tube (1) so that the ventilating opening (2) was bared. It is possible when the opening in a tube coincides with an opening in a hose.

On the right: at the six-cylinder engine for air removal from system of cooling it is necessary to open in addition a bolt with an internal shestigrannik (shooter) at the left below on a tube of cooling liquid.


    Get as spare parts original hoses of the necessary bent form and new collars. Merge and collect cooling liquid. Weaken screw collars a screw-driver. Spring collars of hoses compress nippers for "ears" against the stop. In some models the thick hose at the left below on a radiator is fixed by a metal bracket in connecting knot of a hose. Wring out a metal bracket. Remove hoses. Strongly sitting ends of hoses weaken a screw-driver, having inserted it between a hose and a branch pipe and then having carefully wrung out. Pull quite far new hoses over branch pipes so that they could not slide off again. Do not tighten with force screw collars, the carving differently will break. The hose fixed by a metal bracket: check a sealing ring, pull connecting knot of a hose before entry into a groove of a metal bracket.

 Council: It is seldom possible to replace the water hose broken off or bitten-through by rodents at once as often necessary water hose is not present in a store room. The gluing tape for repair of system of cooling can temporarily help. It is well pasted on the cleared and dry rubber hoses. At big leak can help if to open a radiator cover on one turn in order that in system of cooling pressure which the bandage cannot resist went down. Only now carefully go to a workshop. Do not lose sight of the sensor of temperature and level of cooling liquid!

Plums of cooling means


    Let's cool down to the engine, at the hot engine there is a danger of a burn! Open a locking cover of a broad tank. Dismantle the bottom facing of an impellent compartment (head of the Detail of a body). Substitute under the engine a wide tray for reception of cooling liquid. Remove the bottom water hose on a radiator. In addition:
    Four-cylinder engine: in the direction of travel at the left on the engine remove a thick hose to a radiator and thinner hose to the heating heat exchanger, and also on the case of the thermostat and merge liquid. Six-cylinder engine: merge cooling liquid, having unscrewed below on the engine block a carving stopper of a drain opening.

 Council: Antifreeze is poisonous, therefore it cannot be merged simply in the sewerage. Instead pour out it in a separate vessel and send in special waste (find out where there is a reception point in local administration).

Filling of system of cooling with new cooling liquid

The gulf of new cooling liquid: delay a heating hose on the connected tube so that the ventilating opening (1) became visible. Then put on a jellied branch pipe of a broad tank a piece of a hose in length of 10 cm (2) to increase height of its filling.

As in the engine there is a certain amount of cooling liquid, all that amount of liquid specified in the table at the beginning of head, maybe, is not required.


    Before filling open a collar of a water hose to heating and shift it back so that the ventilating opening was bared. Six-cylinder engine: open the air screw in a tube of cooling liquid under a broad tank. Put on a branch pipe of a jellied opening a piece of a hose in length of 10 cm (diameter about 42 mm) to increase gulf height. In the beginning fill in antifreeze, then, whenever possible, the distilled water so that level of liquid reached the upper edge of a broad tank. Only for the six-cylinder engine: fill in liquid until she will not act from the air screw. Close the screw (15 Nanometers). Fill in liquid further until she will not act from a ventilating opening. Again shift a heat exchanger hose in initial situation (close a ventilating opening) and tighten a collar. Then completely pour liquid. Screw up a locking cover on a broad tank. Start the engine, and let it works until the radiator does not become hot in the field of the bottom connecting knot. If it is necessary, correct liquid level. It should be between marks of "MIN" and «MAX» of a broad tank; when engine hot, that, naturally, above. Be careful, opening a locking cover at more hotly cooling liquid.
